Rhythm x Rituals

Documented for interdisciplinary artist Dora Lam, as part of the group exhibition Altar-native which explored ritual and altar practices of the East and Southeast Asian diaspora through various artistic expressions.

Role: photography

Ritual connects us in myriad ways, and honoring ancestors comes in many forms.

What happens if we take Afro-Brazilian drumming rhythms steeped in ritualistic, ceremonial practices, and fuse them with East and Southeast Asian proverbs imbued with ancestral wisdom passed down through generations as part of a rich oral tradition?

Facilitated by Community Drumming CIC and interdisciplinary artist Dora Lam, Rhythm x Rituals drumming workshop explored what connects us personally, intergenerationally and interculturally.
